Welcome to the From the Glades to the Big Cities UK born Jessica Blake grew up in the US on an Indian Reservation in Florida. It was during these early years that she absorbed her most important musical influences: country and southern rock. She moved to California in her early twenties and toured the US, playing as much as she could from LA’s House of Blues to a bowling alley in Boise, Idaho. And as she toured she traded Native American jewelry. Four years ago she returned to London to open Jessie Western, a southwestern lifestyle store on Portobello Road. This she runs with her sister, Vicky, using it as a base to spread her love of all things southwestern.
Jessica’s voice separates her from the multitude of fragile waifs (both sexes) populating contemporary rock and country. She spurns close-up mic breathiness and the autotune culture of modern production in favour of a strident live sound to reflect her shows. And some shows they are! People walk away finding it hard to believe someone so compact can make all that big sound.
As a songwriter Jessica keeps it simple, which as anyone who’s composed music knows, is the hardest thing to do. Don’t listen to this music if you’re expecting a world of wry ironies; there are none here. This is honest stuff and straight from the heart and all the stronger for it.
‘Three GoodReasons’ is Jessica’s second album on Puffafish Records. How it all started and then some... Home Story Myspace Shows Reviews Contact Store
